Green Runners: 13 Peaks for 13 Turtles
Green Runners focuses on those dedicated to protecting and conserving the environment. This month we focus on Cape Town trail runner and environmental campaigner Karoline Hanks, who set a second women’s FKT (Fastest Known Time) for the 13 Peaks Challenge, and she did it all to help efforts to rehabilitate and conserve turtles.

While he enjoyed much success in trail running in his younger days, Raydon Balie now has his sights set firmly on chasing success on the road! Sport Man Says: The Athletics Career Dilemma
A recent post on Facebook by one of South Africa’s former greats, Tebogo Masehla – the SA Record Holder in the 300m Steeplechase since 2011 – lamented the fact that athletes should not rely on the sport of athletics as a long-term career, but should have a back-up plan in the form of a second career or something to fall back on.
Last Man Standing!
The BackYard Ultra (BYU) requires athletes to run 6.7 kays every hour, on the hour, for as long as possible, until the last man standing is the winner. Murray & Roberts’ Wandisile Ngodlwana did that for 33 hours non-stop, winning the title of the inaugural event in the new series at Van Gaalen’s Farm in the Magaliesberg, on a testing route.
