St Andrew’s EcoTrail Hike and Bike

Mountain Biking Trail Running - Gauteng
  • 10Km
  • 5Km

Event Description

School for Girls in Johannesburg is celebrating Mandela Day by bringing the community together through fitness. What better way to spend your 67 minutes this year than by running, hiking or biking while giving back for a great cause?

Part of Nelson Mandela’s legacy is to dedicate time to those in need, and the annual EcoTrail Hike and Bike does just that. This year’s event will again take place at Huddle Park, and it will once again raise funds for the St Andrew’s social development programme, uBambiswano, which means “Holding Hands” - a Saturday School programme held at St Andrew’s for students from disadvantaged backgrounds and underperforming schools.

Madiba once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” so join St Andrew’s and the Modern Athlete team for this fun, scenic course and help us make a difference in the lives of these deserving children. Bring your friends and family along and come have fun on the trail!

  • Please pre-register online.
  • If you have other family members or friends who would like to join you, please note that they may still register on the day at Huddle Park, between 8:00am - 9:00am at a charge of R140 per entry. They may pay with either the exact amount of cash or by debit/credit card.
  • School entrants will receive their race numbers at school on Friday 21 July; and public entrants may collect their race number from the venue on Saturday 22 July between 8:00am – 9:00am.
  • Please attach your race number to your person before starting your route.

Fundraising Mission

Each Saturday, 100 children choose to come to our beautiful school for an extra day of lessons after a 5-day school week.  These children have hopes and dreams of contributing to our society as well-educated individuals just like you and me.  uBambiswano provides a safe environment where they can realise their potential and benefit from excellent teaching and resources to supplement their education in Daveyton and Etwatwa.  Without your help this programme could not provide these skills and opportunities which make such a significant difference in their lives.

Environmental Awareness

As a diamond status EcoSchool, St Andrew’s is leveraging on the privilege of hosting this community event at the largest green lung in Johannesburg. Huddle Park’s natural wetland will provide a scenic and safe environment for families to walk, run or cycle while contributing their 67 minutes for Mandela Day.
